Tamar's Place embraces the over 175 year legacy of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor who took women engaged in prostitution into their convent and cared for their needs and provide them with a place of healing.
In the words of their foundress, Blessed Mother Frances, "A fire of holy love for my neighbor burned within me. I felt a great desire to seek out and love the Lord in the poor, the sick and the unfortunate."
Several Franciscan Sisters of the Poor volunteer at Tamar's Place providing an opportunity for comfort to the hundreds of women who prostitute themselves in order to cope with the disease of addiction.
